In order to take the logs out of the Saskatchewan River and run them through the Sipcinok Channel we would use fin booms. . . . Each unit of the boom was made of three 12 x 14 inch 40 feet long timbers; bolted together on their edge. On each one of these hinges, we bolted a plank 16 feet long, 12 inches wide, four inches thick at one end and tapered to two inches thick at the other end. We would bolt the thick end to the hinges. In the centre of these planks or fins you could put out a boom at any angle you wished.
